Verlaine West Hollywood

Verlaine took over the old Dominick's on Beverly, a room that had been feeding Hollywood since the fifties and carried more history than most new restaurants can survive next to. The brief I set was to not fight it. Guests came in through a garden corridor and the whole dining experience was built around the patio, planted with edible flowers and herbs, under a retractable glass roof. Checkerboard floor, striped banquettes, a jade and gold bar. Old Hollywood bones with the air let back in. I created the concept and led the design and the project management, which in practice meant carrying it from an idea about what the room should feel like all the way through to the last decision on site. Then I ran what happened inside it. I built the social presence and the programming, including the Nick Jonas after party and the Game of Thrones Emmy event. A room only becomes a place once the right nights happen in it, and that part is design too. It just doesn't show up in the drawings. Verlaine was featured in Architectural Digest.

Nike SB Zoom Dunk Elite Low, Sean Malto

Sean brought me in to find the idea for his shoe. What I landed on was the samurai armorer: not the warrior, the person who builds the thing the warrior trusts with his life. For a skater who takes the impact and gets back up, the armor is the point, and so is the person who made it. I worked with Nike's designers to translate that into the shoe. Brass hardware, the fabric and stitching choices pulled from armor construction, a kabuto on the sockliner. Navy, red, and white. Nike used it as one of the two debut colorways for the Zoom Dunk Elite Low, the first ground up rework of the SB Dunk in fifteen years. It released March 2, 2017. I also built the launch, designed to put the shoe in front of as many of the right people as possible.

rag & bone Houston Project

rag & bone Houston Project

rag & bone brought me in to activate their Houston Street wall. It had been a painted surface for years, a good one, but every artist before us had worked in two dimensions and the street's relationship to it was the same each time: you look, you keep walking. I wanted to break that. The concept was to give the wall depth and then give it away. Twenty four altars, each holding a hand cast figure somewhere between a saint and an astronaut, attached with velcro. Nothing stopping you from taking one except whether you thought you should. I brought in Fab Moretti to make them. Most people know him as the drummer for The Strokes. He's also a serious sculptor, and the pieces are his. Then we put cameras on it, because the real work wasn't the wall. It was watching what a city does when art is within reach and nobody is stopping you. Some people took one. Some stood there and didn't. That hesitation was the piece. The astronauts were gone within days. It ran in Complex, HuffPost, Vice, NME, and Billboard.

Tepozán x James Goldcrown for Amigo Skate Cuba

I conceptualized and produced a Tepozán activation during Miami Art Week built around a collaboration with James Goldcrown, the artist whose hearts have become a visual language of their own. Rather than put the brand behind a bar and call it a sponsorship, I wanted Tepozán to show up the way a patron does: commission the work, give it a stage, and send what it earned somewhere useful. Goldcrown painted three skate decks, each one unique. We displayed them at the Art Miami fair, placing the work inside the collector audience rather than adjacent to it, and directed the proceeds to Amigo Skate, the nonprofit that builds skate parks in Cuba and gets equipment into the hands of Cuban skaters. The deck was the right object because it does three jobs at once. It is a canvas, it is collectible, and it is hardware a kid in Havana actually needs. Tepozán was the connective tissue.

TEPOZÁN × DISCLOSURE

F1 Miami weekend. A yacht moving through the waterways after dark, Disclosure playing the roof deck, a bottle of Tepozán on the decks. The brief I set was to put the brand in a room where it belonged — not as a sponsor, but as the reason the room existed. Curated guest list, no press, no logos on the wall. Just the right people, the right music, and a tequila that earned its place on the table. I conceptualized the event, secured the partnership with Disclosure, and produced the night from the vessel to the guest list to the moment the music started. The brand didn't need to announce itself. It was already there.
